Brussels, the Best Bits

First of all I should mention the weather, it is tradition in England to open any conversation with a comment about the weather so here is my thoughts,  the weather all weekend was overall favourable, except for some light showers and a downpour in Amsterdam.  Did I just say Amsterdam? But that wasn't in the title! Oh yes, we visited, but more on that later.

We arrived with general feelings of fatigue and needed a sleep, we took to the hostel and found out we couldn't use the room tip 3pm, it was currently around 11am, 4 hours was just too long.
After grabbing the key we went to the room and had 5 minute lay, the beds weren't made but that was expected.  Special mention goes to the builders who parked a cherry picker directly outside out window so the builder could see straight into our room.

After refreshing ourselves we took to the mean streets of Brussels to see what they had to offer, turns out its a lot of the same, if you like chocolate and cheap poorly made souvenirs you will love the shops! As the sun was still out we decided to hit the coffee shops and enjoy a cappuccino while soaking up the atmosphere, the ambience was briefly interrupted by a group of English people shouting.

I could end up writing a lot about the weekend so I will choose bullet points to summarise the highlights.

- Alex throwing an open palm at a local guy on crutched simply because he asked for a cigarette.
- Flavoured beers are the future! Peach was arguably my favourite but as the menu was in French I had to only order the ones I could understand, filthy French!
 - Normal beer is a disgrace! In particular Bush Beer, I still wonder if anyone drinks this out of enjoyment.
 - Kwak beer, comes in a delightful stand that Alex and Jack held to drink the beer, for some reason taking the drink out of the stand was too much effort.
- La Corne! I didn't try this as I can't stand the taste of normal beer but the fact it's called "The Horn" is enough to make anyone love this drink, and it comes in a nice stand as well.
- Belgian waffles, so unbelievably nice, apparently the ones stacked sky high with cream and other assortments are very "touristy".
- A light show in the square at 11pm, lasted about 15 minutes but with bright lights and cheesy music it was well worth a visit.
- Being turned away from the freak show night club because we were simply not weird enough.
- Going to a supposed more sophisticated restaurant and being served our dinner in stages, fries came after everyone had finished so we had to eat dry chips after our wet meal.

More updates tomorrow....
