And so i conclude my dealings with Rainbow Lodge in Perth City, for those of you that arrive in Perth with the same expectation that i had of Perth being just a normal average sized city, its not, it stretches for years.
I finally got talking to my new roommate who had been with me for 1 night, turns out he was English and he thought i was German, if there ever was a way to get off on the wrong foot its to tell someone they assumed they were German. I don't know what he saw me doing but i certainly wasn't goose-stepping round the hostel with a white Oktoberfest t-shirt on sipping a Becks with one hand and munching on a Bratwurst seasoned with sauerkraut with the other, all the while keeping my back completely straight and my head fixed directly in front of me.
We exchanged formalities then arranged we would spend the day together, real cute if you ask me. Turns out he was a lot like me but more extreme. He slept fully clothed because he was scared of bed bugs, slept with his bag on incase someone tried to steal it, i questioned him about this because on the odd occasion i sleep with jeans on if my wallet is in my pocket i can't sleep because its uncomfortable, naturally because my wallet it so big its like sleeping with a possum in your pocket. Our room had no windows just a door which he correctly pointed out is a fire risk, if there was a fire at the door we would surely die, i had never thought of such an eventuality but it was noted by him within minutes of arriving, surely a career in the health and safety business would await this young man.
We went on a date to the city and wandered before getting some luncheon then heading back to the hostel, we went to mcdonalds that night and spent 1 and a half hours looking for a mcdonalds that was 10 minutes away, we ate and left and on the way back a car drove towards us slowly, it wasn't the sort of neighbourhood for a drive-by but i fronted it out and acted cool, my new pal done his best impression of a Frenchman and meandered off towards the path, a Scottish man poked his head from the window and asked if his tyre was ok, it wasn't. His tyre was completely flat, i told him you couldn't drive on it and he offered me a very reasonable $20 to change it for him, sensing he wanted a little bit more for his money than just a simple tyre change i left him and head back to the hostel on the promise i would get someone. I asked the receptionist, but she stayed true to form and provided little to no assistance, i forgave her as i did fancy her a little bit.
After a brief phone call to my mother it turned out she had booked me into a hotel on the Esplanade for my final nights stay before i left for Alan and Bridget's house in Secret Harbour, i reluctantly accepted as the Esplanade was only 10 minutes away. I went to bed that night safe in the knowledge i wouldn't have to stay in a hostel again!
