In the final days of our trip to the European holiday resort of Koh Phangan we went out for breakfast and as usual I was served last, on many occasions during this trip I have been left thinking "why always me?". The main feature of the last couple of nights was Watford's cup final against Leeds, but also of interest was the Full Moon Party, Jon and Max had made friends during the week with some Scottish people, so Jon decided that we should follow them all night, I was understandably in a bad mood because that's ironically when I'm happiest. After a lot of standing about and doing nothing we arrived at the beach, Jon got on the table with the Scottish boys and was dancing, Max, Me and a boy that apparently looked like Adam Johnson were standing on a normal surface, of interest was the lunar eclipse above us, the full moon party was temporarily a farce while the moon disappeared for about an hour. I decided to go for a walk, I don't know where I went because i get lost easily but a very long time later I finally got back to the hotel while checking the Leeds score on the way, Watford were luckily winning 1-0.
I got in showered and watched TV til Max turned up about 15 minutes later saying he lost everyone and wants to go back out, luckily for him Grant's a party guy and he knows it so we took off for the beach again, we did laps of the beach while enjoying having drink spilled on us and people knocking into our shoulders. Over an hour later we went back to the hotel and I checked the final score, Bobby Snodgrass had buried a penalty in the final minute against Watford after Nosworthy had made a Max Walters style tackle in the area, final score Watford 1 - 1 Leeds. Jon was still out so we took a rare moment to enjoy ourselves and went for late night dip, Max indulged in some moon bathing and soaked up the rays. We then head in for bed and I watched discovery channel until I felt sleepy. The next morning Jon appeared with a smile, yes he was smiling, also more elaborate stories which may have been true. John "Holiday" Hubbard was doing his best impression of the Cheshire Cat and we all got ready and went for team breakfast, we tucked into not only a hearty breakfast but also some wifi and digested the bites on the table and the bytes on the interweb.
We then went back to the room and Jon and Max went shopping for drinks then out to the pool, I decided that the tv guide was too good to miss and watched some classic viewing on discovery channel including program's such as something with horrible crashes, one where they apparently caught Bigfoot and it was killing people, a documentary on the Vietnam war and then later that evening Rocky part 1 was on and we all sat and watched that one as its great acting and well written script were unmissable, sadly I think the outcome was a bit unreal, Apollo Creed clearly landed most punches and Rocky went down more times so it would have only been a unanimous decision in favour of the World Champ not a rematch, but after that we all had pretend fights and then showered like real men while watching bits of Black Hawk Down while we waited for each other. Once we were looking good we went to locate an eatery, once again we done our usual dinner route of walk past everything then waiting for me to make a decision, today I chose an Italian, clutching at my distant Italian heritage I thought it would be a welcome change from all the local food I had been eating, also it had wifi which is always essential. After alot of indecision and frequent browsing of the menu for the "burger and chips" section Jon and Max settled for the most English pizzas on the menu and Max even humiliated as all by asking if it come with chips.
I, on the other hand decided spinach and parmesan would be my pizza of choice and thought I would utilise my multi lingual skills to order spinaci e parmigiano, the ignorant waitress looked horrified and stared blankly at the menu until I pointed and said "that one" clearly my linguistic skills were unappreciated. We finished up and went to the beach which is always guaranteed some loud music and loads of people, but not tonight it was eerily quiet it actually unsettled me a bit. The same beach that had just 24 hours earlier held 10's of thousands of people was now deserted, we rushed back to the hotel and all had a poo before going to the hotel bar where I finally met the Scottish boys, or Jason Mraz and Adam Johnson as they appeared to be. We sat there all night talking and even contemplated going to the beach a few times before we all voted against, it really showed that democracy can work. Me and Max had late night swim and we all said goodbye to each other and finally went to bed as we had a 5.15am start. And that concluded our 5 night adventure in Malia's Asian cousin, Koh Phangan.
