Singapore, The Home Straight

We awoke on our penultimate day at early o clock to catch a flight to Singapore, as our visa had run out 4 days previously we were effectively illegal immigrants, i was waiting for the special forces to come in and shoot us on the spot but instead we were subjected to a 2000 baht (about £40) fine, and a receipt of the offence as a souvenir. We were booked to travel with Tiger Airways who I later found out had their whole fleet of planes grounded in July for a week due to safety concerns. It's a budget airline so you can imagine the awful conditions we were subjected to, Max had a sleep and started snoring while i tried to find a comfortable position for the duration of the flight, an hour and a half to be exact and I wasn't comfortable once. Off the plane we got into a taxi with the countries friendliest man who was missing part of his finger and said he went travelling to Nepal once and would like to travel more but he was too busy with work, then we arrived at our hotel, sorry hoStel. We entered the building up 3 flight of stairs and into our room where we worked out we were sharing with 2 other people, we tried to decide nationality and gender by their belongings.

We were told there was a American girl who "talks alot" staying there and to watch out for her, we quickly worked out who it was as you could hear her shouting from upstairs, Me and Max braved it and went upstairs to see if we could catch a glimpse, she was in her room shouting like a psycho things like "dont point your finger at me bitch" and "dont use my shampoo bitch" generally each angry outburst ended with bitch, we listened for a whole and felt sorry for her room mate who we assumed she was going to kill, we went back downstairs and asked of she was travelling alone to which the receptionist said yes, we then asked who she was sharing a room with and the receptionist said no one...Me and Max looked at each other with a silent worry that we had just listened to a nutcase and she was loose in our residence. After some much needed rest we went out for traditional past time of dinner which was found after searching many places on some very local streets, eventually we found a Chinese place and were taken through to the back where the tables were, the food was huge and it tasted vile, half way through the meal 2 locals were being led to the tables and confidently walked round the corner then stopped in the door way once they saw us, the waitress went to the table and attempted to make them sit but they didn't move from the doorway so they went and sat outside, I felt unloved and it wouldn't ha e surprised me if one of them was physically sick and the other dropped dead when they saw our pale skin.

We got the bill which was $48 for some reason Max was in charge of the bill and said $20 each, we all paid up and once we reflected outside it became apparent we had just tipped them around 25% of the total bill for unforgivable service. We went back to the hotel where the receptionist said "your girl has gone" knowing it was the nutty yank Me and Max were gutted and Max said "did she check out?" to which the lady replied "no, the police" the plot thickened as it turned out police had come in and collected her, not only was it upsetting knowing we would never see her again but also we were living amongst a grass, someone called the police and we knew it. As it was raining torrentially we decided there was not much we could do so we opted for a little walk round locally to see what's occurring, as it was Sunday there was literally nothing to do so we got team snacks and went back to the hostel lounge where we played card games and watched Top Gear, a Vietnam special where they get motorbikes, w were joined half way through by a Chinese boy who was laughing at most of it and saying "are they for real?!" alot, it was rhetorical so naturally we didn't feel obliged to answer.

Max used his knowledge and skills acquired at DLC copiers to make Me a cup of tea, I asked our Chinese pal if he wanted a cup as I assumed they all love the stuff over there, he politely declined. We went to bed soon after it finished as we were a little bit more than tired, we also found out we were sharing a room with a Chinese boy who hasn't left the hostel since we have been here and another guy who hasn't spoke and only turns up at night to sleep and disappears during the day, he looks Iranian. Our final day we woke up showered and planned a day at Sentosa Beach only for the rain to put an end to that plan, instead we went to the shopping district where there is roughly 4 shopping centres on each corner of the road. We found lunch in a New York themed diner and enjoyed our food before having more aimless wandering and going back to the hotel.

Max had kept on about an open air food market where it was great to eat so after some research we ended up at this place he thought was it, he quickly realised it wasn't. There's about 50 stalls in a big circle and you sit somewhere and order from one of them, we chose one and sat down and while we were being handed a menu another 3 people came and gave us menus for other places, it was harassment of the highest order. While a live singer destroyed Collide by Howie Day in the market, Me and Jon were being abused for our chopstick technique by a waitress who fancied me so much she even took to sitting at the spare seat and staring while we ate, I hated it as I hate eating in front of people especially when they stare, I would never stare at someone while they ate. She gave me a free drink which I thoroughly deserved for putting up with Max and Jon for the last 6 weeks, she also had wrote her number on the side of the can but say she wasn't my type so she won't be getting a call from me.

We decided to get on the train and get and take a trip to memory lane, or Little India as its officially known, we come out the station and quickly found ourselves sitting down enjoying a drink at the place we had dinner on the very first night of our adventure, we talked the last 6 weeks over and the good times to come ahead. We got back on the train and back to the hotel to chill out and waste some hours before bed time, as Max had to be up about 7 we thought an early night would do us good. We watched Manchester United beat QPR 2-0 on TV and analysed how poor QPR's strikers are before comparing how many United players would get into Chelsea's team, Jon got angry at this point and decided he was going to bed, as we couldn't trust the Chinese boy not to kill him we followed Jon to bed and tucked ourselves in. One point of note for the evening was, while searching for my blog on google Jon, rather unsurprisingly, had typed in www.toppman.blogspot.com I will let the reader have a look with out saying too much but it won't come as a shock when you remember Jon found it, I hope this blogger appreciates the attention in giving him as views for this blog hit 1000 today for the past 6 weeks of blogging, congratulations everyone, we did it.
